Another popular diving spot in Gili Lawa Laut is Castle Rock. Castle Rock is considered by many to be the best dive site on Komodo Island and one of the best not only in Indonesia but also in the world. Suitable for experienced divers only. There are plenty of chances of seeing sharks, rays, and other special macro species.

A great place to find fish. The most popular sea creatures are moray eels, batfish, sea fans and soft corals. One is that it is not suitable for beginners. Strong currents are expected. Come with a diving instructor to enjoy a great diving experience.

Depending on the tide, the top of Castle Rock is just a few meters above the surface, and the bottom is about 30 meters below. Of course, tides also affect tidal currents. Currents can be strong and generally flow east during low tide and west during high tide. The diver is advised to jump 50 meters against the current from the top of the dive site and descend as quickly as possible. There are many ways to protect yourself from currents, including safety stops. Due to the location, perimeter depth, and flow, Castle Rock’s clarity is generally excellent. Don’t be surprised if visibility exceeds 30 meters.

Ways to Get There

Gili Lawa Laut is located near Komodo Island and Gili Lawa country. It is accessible from Labuan Bajo. It’s on the east side of this checkpoint. Journey time is usually around 3–4 hours. The most common mode of transportation is speedboats. It’s a good idea to have both gear and food ready before visiting the island. Upon arrival in Gili Lawa Laut, there are no facilities.
